Where is your water table? IN high rainfall areas, the water table can pop out of the ground or if you didg, inudate the hole. Can your soil drain?
The drainage ideas go as follows.
Excessive. - Water leaves out. Soil texture is coarse and or gravely. This does limit use productivity.
Good. - Moisture steadily moves. The texture is mid-range coarsely sandy to average fine. Soil colors are red to brown inversely.
Fair. More clay is present. Compaction may be present in a hard pan. Gray colors of putrification are seen if you are in the top two feet, THis presents some limited issues for the site. Like a broken record, organic matter can fix shit.
Poor. - It can get swampy, smelly, thick and heavy. Dig a hole and it will fill with water and hold it. Grays and clods are seen when dug in this slow geologic sedimentation. Water stands around while food and building advantages are affected.
So there ya go. Make sure your solid is in the window of functionality. Not too fast and not too slow. Add biology if not quite where you want it.
