I'm diligently trying to organize my online file cabinets. Prayers appreciated.
As I am pilfering through old writings and photos, trying to decide what is worth sharing in this new online file, I'm thinking about the progress I have made in my life. I have lived and learned many things. Many many things about many things. People, faith, family, food, parenting, business, finance, gardening...the list is endless.
The world has also changed since I first "blogged", back in 2008. When blog was not a part of everyday vernacular.
I actually completely forgot that this particular blog existed but the internet has not forgotten my early musings. I was googling my name, trying to find a freelance article that I wrote, and I found Arkansas: Our Natural State, where I shared a very few thoughts.
A lot has stayed the same as well. I still take way too many pictures, I'm still in awe at the beauty and intricacy of God's creation and I still long for the garden in February. Hence this version of a prior article written in February of 2009.
Writing has always been a way for me to sort through my thoughts and I have always had a desire to share a part of myself with the world. To be impactful in some way. At this time in my life, I was learning about people who were making money with blogging and it seemed like something that would be right up my alley. God blessed us with 4 babies in 5 years which made pursing a side hustle take to the back burner.
God has a way of leading our steps, so I am quite sure that for whatever reason, I was not meant to be one of those early bloggers to "strike it rich" in that new marketplace but I learned a lot from reading soooooo many of the articles that others found the time or made the time to share.
Thoughts from my former self:
"This is a picture I took last summer of a surprisingly beautiful okra flower we grew last summer. Now is a great time to start thinking about your summer garden.
If you have never grown a garden or you don't think you can, you will be happy to know that just about anyone can cultivate enough plants to have a pretty good supply of fresh produce in the summer.
It does take some time and a little bit of TLC, but it is well worth it.
The cost to start a garden is fairly low and the money you will save on fresh produce will more than make up for the expense to start your garden! With food prices climbing, you could stand to save a lot of money in the summer, depending on how much produce you and your family eat.
There is something special about providing food for your family by working outside and getting your hands a little dirty.
Food that my husband and I grow in our back yard always tastes better:)"
Thoughts from my current self:
Yes!!!!!
I could have easily written that today! High prices at the grocery store and all!!!
I HIGHLY encourage anyone who is even remotely led to explore gardening, to put some seeds into the ground this year. Now is the time to start the seeds.
Now is always the best time to plant the seeds in our lives. The sooner you jump in to give something a try, the sooner you can start learning, problem solving and growing.
Cast aside your fear of failure!!! The only failure is the failure to take action.
Plant the seeds this year friends. The seeds of food and good character. You will learn and grow a little more each year and 14 years later...you will be so glad you did!
