What are your land use goals?

Are they written down or is it a drifting, darting target?

Ways = means and inversely should your means be relevant to your ways in regards to land use.

Frank Loyd Wright knew the relation of form and function just as D. Wayne Lucas does with the ponies.

So, what function do you want from your property?

A spot to lay your head, graze a calf, cut fuel wood, market garden, bird watch, hike or grow a rice crop?

Sometimes you need to look underneath and work your way to the surface.

Take it to the bedrock.

Site evaluation is the process of sorting areas according to their best use. This can be broadly grouped or to the square foot.

As man's issues become more pressured, the function of land sites must be analyzed for business, governance, and private use. We must do what nature always does. Match form with function in all dimensions. It must horizontally and vertically yeild vs consume.

The craft of site selection is as old as man himself. It is ingrained in our genetics whether we realize it or not. We generally recognize site functional form and function, yet we have gotten distanced in our cubical. Some indicators can be spotted from the surface, but at times we must look to concealed layers to make the proper decision for the function of the resource.

These factors communicate to us how highly patterned the site may be stressed or how long we may push to inert with the living. These factors affect physical engineering abilities.

The surface of sites is only a mask of the current space, events, and patterns. Under the organic matter and topsoil, deeper within the profile are the true clues of functionality. These clues are only one part of the functionality puzzle.

Just like D. Wayne may look to the pedigree or Wright looks to the sun, we must further look to slope, texture, internal drainage, erosion, climate, and surface runoff for our decision of functionality.

Once the goals become clearer, then and only then can one begin to make progress in order to select sites and tools to fulfill their wishes. The form of the land and the function of the site must suit what your dreams are. If either is out of line, you will not align the two for your true "haven"
